Plantar Fasciitis is not a very uncommon condition, which is one of the main causes of heel pain.[1] When you have Plantar Fasciitis it is important that you invest in proper footwear that supports your feet and that provides proper cushioning to absorb impact when walking, running, or standing.[2]

Most athletic Orthopedic and other shoe types do offer adequate features that accommodate this condition. However, these shoes are designed to look good and are not always to be comfortable. So in this article, we want to help you find the best dress shoes for Plantar Fasciitis.
If you have a foot condition or ongoing foot pain, talk to a doctor or podiatrist. Shoes can add comfort and support, but they are not a medical treatment.

Plantar Fasciitis Causes and Symptoms

As we have said before, Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common conditions causing heel pain in its patients. The condition is basically an overuse injury, or it can be a wear and tear injury. Here are some of the symptoms and causes and a few helpful treatments for Plantar Fasciitis.

  • Symptoms – You will notice the pain, especially in the morning when you first get up after being off your feet for a while, or when you have been resting for a while. Plantar Fasciitis causes a stinging and burning sensation in the heel and arch area of the foot.[3]
  • Causes – You have a thin band of tissue running. From your toes to your heel at the bottom of your feet, called the plantar fascia. Now when these tissues become strained, inflamed, and even have small tears or ruptures, they can lead to the condition called Plantar Fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis is mainly caused by overuse injuries or any activities that place excessive strain on these tissues.
  • Risk Factors – Individuals taking part in high-impact activities, or any activities and sport that strain the plantar Fascia, are more likely to develop the condition. Individuals that are overweight and people with different types of food shapes, especially people with higher than normal or lower than normal arches, or all most likely to get the condition Plantar Fasciitis.[4]
  • Treatments – Plantar Fasciitis pain can easily be treated by using ice or heat on the painful area. You can use over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain medication and also use therapy. It is however quite important that you do invest in proper footwear when you have Plantar Fasciitis, which will support your feet and provide adequate support to help with the healing process and to help you deal with the symptoms.

Dress Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

It might not always be the easiest mission to find good dress shoes when you have Plantar Fasciitis, as most dress shoes lack in support and comfort features, and they also do not always offer the best fit.

Dress shoes that have very high heels and a very narrow toe box are not ideal for your feet in any situation, let alone when you have the condition Plantar Fasciitis, which is already causing pain in your heel area.

I would suggest opting for a dress shoe that has a slightly lower heel or a flatter sole, although you should stay away from completely flat salt dress shoes also. Look for good comfort and support features in your dress shoes, such as a cushioned insole, a shock-absorbing midsole and a contoured or arch-supportive footbed.[5]

Next, try to invest in a ratio that offers you a more comfortable fit that will not squeeze your feet, and that will not be so loose, causing you slippage. As you will see, many of the dress shoe models that we have featured are available in wider widths and more size options. And overall, do offer a more comfortable and relaxed fit.
