How We Research

This page explains how Best Shoes Women researches products and decides what to include in our guides. We want you to know what our guides are based on, and what they are not based on.

Research, Not Testing

Best Shoes Women is a small, independent website. Our guides are written by Eliza Ward and Pavneet Lobana.

We do not test products hands-on. We do not buy, wear or lab-test the shoes we list, we do not visit stores to inspect them, and we do not use third-party testers. Our guides are based on research: we gather published information about each product, compare it, and explain it in plain language.

What We Look At

  • Manufacturer information. Materials, upper and lining, sole and outsole, cushioning, heel height, closure type, weight and care instructions, taken from the brand’s own product pages or the retailer listing. When a detail comes only from the manufacturer, we present it as the manufacturer’s description.
  • Sizing and fit options. Available sizes and widths (for example narrow, wide and extra wide), removable insoles, and the brand’s own sizing advice.
  • Stated features and seals. Features such as slip-resistant outsoles, waterproofing or arch support are reported as the manufacturer states them. We do not certify them ourselves.
  • Buyer reviews. We read public reviews from buyers to spot recurring patterns, such as comments about fit, sizing, break-in or durability. We use this as background, not as proof.
  • Availability and price. We aim to list products that can be bought when we update a guide, and we note large price differences where they matter.

Scores and Rankings

The order of products in a guide is an editorial choice based on the research above. It is not the result of a test. Some older guides still show a percentage score next to products. That number is an editorial estimate, not a measured result, and we are removing these scores from our guides.

Foot Health Information

Many of our guides are about shoes for people with foot problems. When a guide covers foot health, the background information should come from public health and medical organizations, not from shoe marketing, and we are adding links to those sources in our guides. We do not say that shoes or insoles treat, cure, correct or prevent a medical condition.

Our content is general information and is not medical advice. If you have foot, knee, hip or back pain, or a condition such as diabetes that affects your feet, please talk to a doctor or podiatrist before choosing footwear.

Updates and Corrections

Products, prices and availability change. We update guides when products are discontinued or unavailable and when information is out of date. If you spot an error, please tell us through our Contact page.
